The Kailua Kona Coast rests on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii. People come to enjoy the warm weather and beautiful beaches year round. We review the best snorkeling spots, give underwater photography tips, shopping ideas, sightseeing trip plans and a review of the Country Club Villas condominiums.

We visited Kailua-Kona during the Ironman Triathlon race. We watched the exciting start of the swim portion of the race and made it to close to the end of the running portion of the race. See our photos of the race and learn what to expect if you attend next year. More

    Lava Flowing into the Ocean

    Volcano National Park

Visiting Volcano National Park was the highlight of our Big Island vacation. In addition to hiking out to watch the lava flow into the ocean, we saw steaming craters, tropical birds and wild orchids. We hiked across relatively recent lava flows, through a lava tube and through a rain forest.

Learn how to make the most of your visit to Volcano National Park including tips on what to expect regarding the weather, what to wear and where to eat. More

Hilo: The East Side of the Big Island

Hilo is the center of commerce, on eastern side of the Big Island. Many visitors are now flying into Hilo on ATA and it is the perfect jumping off point to visit the Puna and Volcano areas.

With less sun and more rain than the Kona side of the island, Hilo is less crowded with tourists. That is a shame because Hilo and the surrounding area is beautiful and full of relaxing and exciting activities. More

    Waipi'o Valley Overlook

    Waipi'o Valley and Hamakua Coast

As you travel north out of Hilo along the Hamakua Coast, the highway towers above the rocky coastline and rough seas. Stop along the way at the Laupahoehoe Point County Park for a up-close and personal view of the waves crashing onto the volcanic rocky shore.

At the north end of the eastern side of the Big Island lays the Waipi'o Valley. One look and the visitor can see why this is and was a sacred place of the Hawaiian People. Travel into the valley to experience it's scenic beauty. More

    Kohala Resort Sunset

    Kohala Resorts Area

The Kohala Coast lays beneath the shadow of the Mauna Loa volcano to the east and north of Kailua Kona. The north west side of the Big Island of Hawaii is blessed with sunny skies, warm tempatures and tropical breezes. Add warm ocean water, perfect for swimming, surfing and snorkeling and you have the recipie perfect for a vacation. This is where you will find the whitest white sand beaches and the most expensive hotel rooms on the island.More
